About the training
We are able to offer this training course to autistic adults as part of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism trial.
The training will include a session led by an experienced autistic trainer, presenter and advocate, followed by practical strategies and tips from our specialist autism trainers.
This training will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams, and will cover:
- lessons learned from experience
- developing confidence
- discovering individual presentation style
- presentation tips and practice
- managing audiences
- getting work and getting paid.
After this training course, autistic adults, including those who have attended this course, will have the opportunity to submit an application to share lived experience in the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism trial.

Who is the course for?
Autistic adults interested in developing skills in public speaking and sharing lived experience and autism knowldege.
Course content
- Listening to autistic speaker, trainer, and advocate, Carly Jones MBE share her experience of delivery throughout her career.
- Insight, practical tips and strategies for delivering content both virtually and in person from our experienced training consultants.
- The opportunity to present a short five-minute presentation on the topic of your choice, within a safe and open environment with other autistic delegates.
Course requirements
In order to be accepted onto the Public speaking skills course, you would need to:
- be willing to learn and improve your public speaking skills
- have a thorough understanding of autism
- identify as being on the autism spectrum (those from diverse groups are encouraged to apply)
- be available to attend the training on 23 November 9.30am - 4.30pm or 24 November 9.30am - 4.30pm
- submit your application form by 8am on 11 November 2020.
