Learning pathways
Early Years Foundation Stage
Pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. There is an emphasis on preparing each child with the important skills they will need in future. Some of the areas Early Learning Goals which pupils work towards include: Communication and Language, which includes Listening and Attention, understanding and speaking Physical Development, which includes Moving and handling, health and self care, Personal Social and Emotional Development: which includes self confidence and self awareness, managing feelings and behaviour and making relationships.
Key Stages 1 and 2
Pupils in Year 1 - Year 6 follow a broad curriculum which includes access to the National Curriculum. Pupils have daily lessons in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science. Regular lessons in a range of lessons and activities appropriate for the pupils' level of development. Primary Classes have a curriculum where different subjects are grouped together. There are Active afternoons and Creative afternoons during the week.
Key Stage 3
Pupils either move up from our primary department or join as a new pupil in KS3. English and Maths lessons are taught in the mornings as evidence shows this is the best time for concentration. The full national curriculum including Religious Education is offered, and is adapted to the pace and learning style of each group. we teach independence and social skills as well as academic lessons throughout KS3. Pupils start in a class where they have a team of staff for most lessons, however they will gradually become expected to move around the building more than in the primary department and also will be taught by different staff for specialist subjects. They will remain with their class teacher.
Key Stage 4
Most students study the core subjects of Maths, English and Science at a level that reinforces understanding and provides clear opportunities to progress, with an emphasis on functional skills. Qualifications offered range from Personal Progress units, through Entry Level to GCSE, at both Foundation and Higher level.
Our Personal and Social Development curriculum serves to equip students with personal and interpersonal skills, giving them opportunities to set their own goals, communicate needs, take responsibility for their actions, achieve their maximum independence and work co-operatively with others through a range of individual and group activities in school and the wider community. There is a strong emphasis on healthy lifestyle with students learning to prepare healthy meals, live safely in the community, at home and on line and also to take part in regular activities that involve physical exercise. Information and Communication Technology and Computing are taught discretely. These skills are also incorporated into many other subject areas. There are opportunities to study for a range of qualifications up
