About us

Thames Valley School helps autistic students build on their strengths, learning, confidence and enjoyment. Our aim is to respond to the needs of each of our students, helping them to grow in confidence and achieve.

Welcome to Thames Valley School

I am truly honored to be the Headteacher of Thames Valley School. This is a school that is rooted in the community with the child and their family at the core and where each pupil is valued and supported to achieve their best.

By utilising the skills of our highly trained staff and creating a safe and engaging environment, with an inspiring and meaningful curriculum, we provide our children with the skills, understanding and knowledge to succeed and transition into further education and employment.

We offer a rich and broad curriculum delivered by teachers that are passionate and knowledgeable and reflective of their own practice. With high expectations, we provide an environment that supports each child to succeed and undertake the academic qualifications that will prepare them for life.

We believe in preparing our pupils by supporting them to become independent lifelong learners, who follow their interests and life ambitions. We value that each learner has a place in society and we further promote that by supporting the community with their understanding and awareness of Autism, enabling our learners to reach their goals and become valued members of their own community.

I look forward to working in partnership with each child and their family over the coming years, joining you on your child’s educational journey into adulthood, watching them grow and succeed whilst celebrating their achievements together.

Amanda Makoka, Headteacher

Each child at Thames Valley School is treated as an individual. We take enormous care to give your child the support they need to learn well and to develop their confidence and independence. Small classes, committed and experienced specialist teachers, and a wonderful learning environment all contribute to making our school an exceptional place to be.

We have the highest expectations for every child in our school and believe that they are able to achieve above and beyond what may have been anticipated for them before. We are encouraging, supportive, and always celebrate your child’s achievements. We also ask them to work hard, and help them to enjoy the success that this brings.

Your child will receive an outstanding, highly personalised education at Thames Valley School. We are specialists in autism, and our aim is for your child to lead a successful, fulfilling life in society.

We will work closely with you, because we know that parents and carers are experts in what their child needs, and you will be an important member of our team. Our doors are open to all our families and we want you to feel as much a part of our school community as your child.

Please do get in touch with us to discuss what our school could offer your child. We look forward to talking to you.

Best wishes,

Jo Galloway, Executive Principal of Thames Valley School
