Flexible boarding & short breaks
Respite is having a massive positive influence on her, she was happy when she came home, went in the shower and took herself to bed. This morning she told me she wanted to start cleaning her teeth (like at school)."
Our popular flexible boarding service is based at Thurnscoe House and Studios, located in the school grounds, that offer semi independent living. Both provisions are rated by Ofsted as Outstanding. The service offers short breaks during term time and holidays for day and 38 week pupils who attend the school. For legal reasons it is not available for children and young people who do not attend the school.
Flexible boarding will allow your child to explore and experience new and different ways of having fun. There are lots of outdoor activities both at school and in the local area to take part in, all of which provide exercise and entertainment. We know that while your child is having fun and relaxing, their behaviour, independence, life skills and communications skills are being developed.
Some of the activities available on our short breaks:
- Metrodome Leisure Complex
- Yorkshire Wildlife Park
- Laser Zone and 4D Golf at Xscape Yorkshire
- Cinema visits
- Coastal trips and amusements
- Cannon Hall Farm and adventure play area at Cannon Hall Country Park.
There’s also plenty of time to relax, play games, and to explore the local area.
Flexible boarding is just that: your child may come for daytime activities only, regular or occasional overnight stays, or for a weekend. We run our flexible boarding during the working week and some weekends during the school term, and for specific weeks during the school holidays. To find out when the next short breaks opportunity will be, as well as our fees and availability, please get in touch with us.
"This is a typical comment from a parent: ‘Excellent school with skilled and caring staff. My child has respite boarding and it is exemplary, well run with experienced staff. I recommend this school to all families with children with severe autism and complex needs."
