ASPIE

Main information

Type of service: Local groups, Social groups

ASPIE is a social self-help and motivation group for adults with Asperger syndrome. ASPIE provides an environment where Asperger adults (and partners/parents/friends) can meet, and feel welcome and accepted, encouraging each other to re-engage and join in various discussions and activities. The aim is to enable members to find friendship and rebuild their confidence and self-esteem and achieve their own individual goals, be that working towards education, training, employment or simply enjoying life. Activities include board games, discussions and quizzes, guitar night, meals out, plus computer/internet access for strategic games, job searches, curriculum vitae (CV) preparation and coursework. Some members have information technology (IT) skills and being aware of the difficulties in employment we have created a micro-enterprise based on website design. Others are interested in football and we now have our own football team Aspie Avengers. Please come along, alone or with a friend /parent accompanying you (or send someone to check us out). Join in and tell the group what sort of centre you would like to be a member of, or if you would feel more comfortable, sit and observe. We look forward to meeting you.
