Sutherland House is a non-maintained special school, providing for up to 94 pupils across Lower and Upper School, over 5 sites in and around Nottingham. Ofsted inspections in 2007 and 2011 judged the school outstanding. Educational approach is highly individualised but comprises the following key features: structure; positive intervention; individual teaching; emphasis on communication and interaction; emphasis on emotional well being; and awareness of sensory issues. The staff team includes Head Teachers, Assistant Head Teachers, teachers, teaching assistants, specialists (eg Design and Technology (D+T), Information Communication Technology (ICT)), curriculum coordinator, Speech and Language Therapy Team, sensory trained Occupational Therapists, music specialists (for music interaction therapy) and assistant Psychologists. Wider services provided include Diagnosis and assessment (through the Elizabeth Newson Centre), Training, outreach and consultancy, research and information and family support.
