Autistic Spectrum Disorder Service - North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust

The Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Service is a part of the Children and Young People's Division and comprises of two teams: the Pre-School ASD team, and, the School Age ASD team. The Pre-School team see children up until their 5th birthday and the School Age team deal with children and young people from 5 years until their 18th birthday.

We provide: (1) Comprehensive assessment to explore whether a child or young person meets the criteria for a diagnosis of ASD. This assessment will take place over a number of appointments and will include collecting information from parents and school, as well as a play-based assessment with the child or young person who is being assessed. With parent's consent, information will be sought from other professionals who have worked with their child and a school observation may be carried out. Parents will be provided with a written report following the assessment. (2) Psychological support to families when a child or young person has been given a written diagnosis of ASD. This may include working with children and young people, siblings and parents either on an individual basis or in a group setting.
