Barnardo's West Midlands Family Placement & Adoption Service
Main information
Type of service: Fostering, Respite and short breaks
Barnardo's West Midlands Family Placement Services is a fostering service, founded in March 2008 following the merger of three long standing and well established Barnardo's projects, 0-18 Family Placement Service, Midlands New Families, and Break-Away. Our success in supporting children and their carers has meant that our reputation has grown. Children and young people are referred to us from Local Authorities across the Midlands and beyond. We pride ourselves on finding suitable placements by matching the needs of each child with an appropriate Barnardo's carer. We look to recruit applicants from all different backgrounds, with different skills and abilities. What they all have in common is their enthusiasm, energy, patience and ability to work as a team. It is important that we recruit a broad range of carers from all cultural and social backgrounds who are able to meet the needs of children and young people. We offer a comprehensive support package including monthly visits from a social worker, generous weekly fee and allowance, short breaks, 24 hour helpline, help to secure specialist equipment / adaptations, continuing professional development opportunities, Support Groups, Carer forums, social events for all the family, newsletters and individual membership to independent advice and support services. Volunteers may be accepted to work with service users. West Midlands Family Placement also offers adoption support and the service was re-launched in 2013.
