Beaumont Hill Academy
Main information
Type of service: Assessment, Day schools, Nursery and pre-schools, Outreach - education, Schools
The autism spectrum disorder (ASD) provision within Beaumont Hill covers the full age range 5-19 years. There are 7 discrete ASD classes all staffed by qualified, fully trained staff in Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped CHildren (TEACCH) and Team Teach. Some pupils with ASD are in the main body of Beaumont Hill, as they can access the curriculum and cope with higher numbers of pupils very successfully. We have a small unit, Eskdale, for pupils with ASD who display extreme challenging behaviours. This is staffed to a very high pupil/staff ratio which reflects pupil need. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. This is only if volunteers are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) cleared and accepted by the school. Another intervention, approach and programme offered by the school is sensory music. Another disability catered for by the school is Multiple Disabilities and a Visual Impairment (MDVI). Another extra curriculum offered by the school are residential experiences.
