Camelford Community Primary School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Nursery and pre-schools, Schools
The name of the unit for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the Area Resource Base (ARB). Pupils with an ASD are taught both in mainstream classes (we currently have 2 ASD boys in Year 4) and in our 'special' class, allowing opportunities for inclusion when appropriate. We try to provide individualised provision for each child. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. Parents and students are both welcome. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework when appropriate. The teacher-pupil with ASD ratio in the school or unit varies depending on the individual, some 1:1, some are the whole class. We have access to local stables weekly for Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) sessions. Another extra curriculum offered by the school are after school clubs.
