Cumwhinton School
Main information
Cumwhinton School is a specialist provision for pupils with severe autism spectrum condition (ASC), educated within a mainstream school setting. We can accept up to 8 pupils with autism. Every member of staff at the school is trained to work with pupils with ASC. In addition there are a number of specialist staff to support the children with ASC. ASC pupils are included in mainstream lessons wherever appropriate. There is also a purpose built building for the pupils with ASC where they can work alongside small groups of mainstream pupils in a quiet and peaceful environment. The grounds of the school are fully secure with the needs of all pupils, including those with ASC, met. Cumwhinton is a village on the outskirts of Carlisle. Pupils with a diagnosis of ASC can access the provision through their area assessment officer. The parents of pupils with ASC are welcome to visit by appointment.
