Elleray Park is a 60 place school for pupils with complex learning difficulties and autism. The school is accredited with The National Autistic Society (NAS). The school has a large staff expertise with all staff trained in the triad, TEACCH and communication/behaviour strategies. Elleray Park promotes detailed assessment and intervention providing specialist provision for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) pupils. The school has small highly structured, low stimulus classrooms using specialist strategies. Classrooms have been structurally adapted to provide designated areas for different activities. The environment and teaching strategies are modified for each individual and cater for a range of learning styles and needs. Communications skills are developed and promoted in all curricular activities. The school promotes the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills in this environment ensuring pupil success. Training workshops are run in conjunction with the school's educational psychologist to support parents. A strong working partnership with parents is a key feature of the school. Elleray Park is recognised for its strong inclusion programme where pupils are supported in their local primary school with highly experienced staff. The school runs a successful outreach service providing training and support for teaching staff in mainstream schools. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the SPELL framework.
