This is a diagnostic service that uses the Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders (DISCO) framework and covers the North Glasgow area including parts of East Dunbartonshire. Service is based within the Glenfarg Child Development Centre. Referral to this service is via the National Health Service (NHS). Diagnosis is multi-disciplinary and includes: paediatrics, speech and language therapy, educational psychology and access to clinical psychology and psychiatry as required. The service caters for adults from the age of 16 with Asperger syndrome, autism and high-functioning autism. In addition to the diagnostic service the practice also offers speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and access to a social work team. A follow up service is available, however places are limited.
Assessment procedure: Interview of parents by paediatrician and speech and language therapist followed by assessment and observation of child in clinic and other setting (school or nursery) and assessment by educational psychologist. Gives an indication to where client falls on the autistic spectrum.
Follow up service: Yes, but unfortunately not able for all children at present.
Multi-disciplinary assessment: Yes, professions involved: Paediatrician, speech and language therapist, educational psychologist, access to clinical psychology and psychiatry as required.
