Hafod Road is a specialist service offering support to eight individuals with a autism spectrum disorder and challenging behaviour. Individuals are supported with all areas of their life including living skills, social activities and attending appointments. The service is situated in a quiet residential area half a mile from Hereford city centre, shops and other community facilities are located within walking distance. Voyage Care believe that people with ASD respond best to a low stimulus environment with support from a staff team that has been trained to provide a structured and consistent approach. They structure daily routines to ensure that each person has a set sequence of planned activities throughout the day. They aim to help promote independence and believe that communication is a key factor in the support they provide, as the inability to communicate preferences and wishes is the main cause of behaviours that challenge. Voyage Care use a wide range of communication aids and systems and staff are trained to communicate using a range of methods, including non-verbal means such as pictures, photos, symbols and Choice Boards. They take a holistic approach to dealing with challenges, using Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention and TEACCH. Hafod Road can also provide support to individuals living within their own homes.
