Jigsaw CABAS® School provides a specialist resource for children aged 4-19 years old diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is an independent day school. The school first opened its doors in September 1999 under the direction of the Jigsaw Trust, a registered charity set up by a group of parents. It is the only school of its kind in Surrey, offering a structured programme of intensive teaching based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and provides a much needed resource for up to 60 children, having recently extended its provision to include Early Years. The aims and objectives of The Jigsaw School are: a) to offer early intensive intervention for primary and secondary age children; b) to offer an approach to learning based on the principles of ABA; c) to provide a curriculum which meets each child's individual needs. To set up individual education plans for each child and to offer access to the national curriculum where appropriate; d) to enable children, where possible, to integrate into mainstream schools and, where not, to continue to support their ongoing needs; e) to provide parent education and build partnerships between parents and staff; f) to provide a safe, caring and enjoyable environment where children can thrive and grow towards independence; and g) to provide a training and developmental programme for teaching staff leading to a recognised qualification at postgraduate level from an established university.
