Mayo House

Main information

Mayo House is a registered care home for people with learning disabilities, located in a quiet lane about two miles from Yate. Mayo House is particularly suitable for younger adults who have complex emotional needs and become distressed easily, including those with autistic spectrum disorders. One of the aims of the service is to help people learn to manage their distress more successfully, become more independent and move on to less intensive services. Person-centred values are at the core of our service philosophy, with the service user as the expert in their own needs and at the centre of all planning. Mayo House aims to provide a safe and emotionally secure environment in which the needs of clients are met. This includes attachments, routines and difficulties with respect to communication and choice-making. We provide a highly individualised service which supports people in lifelong learning and development. Accommodation consists of seven flats with en-suite bathrooms and cooking facilities. There are a variety of communal rooms available for individual or group activities, including a quiet room, a study, an activities room equipped with a pool table, jukebox and games, and a sensory room. There is also a large garden. Service users are encouraged, in a non-pressurised way, to participate in the day-to-day running of the home, being involved in cooking, cleaning and shopping. We also assist them in pursuing individual hobbies, as well as educational and employment opportunities.
