Newstead is a purpose built bungalow that provides residence and care for six people who have complex needs arising from an autistic spectrum disorder and with some limited learning disabilities. Service Users will have medium dependency needs and a low incidence of unpredictable and challenging behaviour. There is a strong emphasis on personal skill development and assumption of self responsibility within the framework of support focused on self care, daily living skills, and community involvement. Newstead has its own team led by a team manager who works under the co-ordination and direction of a Service Manager responsible for Newstead and Brierley. The staff team are all required to attend in-service staff training and development programmes including Understanding and Working with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and methods of intervention and support. All service users have a detailed care and support programme reflecting the aims of their individual care and assessment plan. Care plans reflect the principles of the government white paper Valuing People and all referrals are provided with a detailed pre-placement assessment by independent Care Consultants.
