Oldham Personal Advocacy Ltd (OPAL)

Main information

Type of service: Advocacy (general), Day services, Social groups

OPAL is an independent organisation for people who have learning disabilities. It runs an Advocacy Service, the self-advocacy Go Group (Getting Out Group) which organises social activities, campaigns and consultations, and other daytime projects. There is a charge if you want to come to OPAL for daytime activities but you can use the money out of your Individual Budget to pay for these. Personal Advocacy is for people who have a problem and need someone's help to speak up for them. The problem could be to do with your money, relationships with family/carers, changes to your support, making complaints about services, or making a choice in where to live. If you ask OPAL for help, we will find you an Advocate who can get to know you and find out what help you need. Your Advocate will meet with you wherever you like - this could be at the OPAL office or in your own home. They will get to know you and also other people who are important in your life.
