Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
Ravenscliffe is Calderdale's only secondary special school providing education for 110 students aged 11 to 19 with extremely diverse needs. The school caters for pupils with moderate, severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties, autism, sensory impairment and physical disabilities. Some 20 per cent of this population has emotional difficulties and may present extremely challenging behaviours. The school follows a mainstream secondary model with students generally working in year groups within specialist subject areas with needs based groups employed in developing communication, literacy and numeracy skills. 'P' scales and National Curriculum (NC) level provide a profile of student achievement. Pupils are educated in groups with others with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and in mixed groups. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
