This is a specialist Academy school for pupils aged 2 and a half to 19 years old. We cater for a very wide range of special educational needs (SEN), from pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), severe learning disabilities (SLD) and moderate learning disabilities (MLD). Pupils with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are educated in groups based on their overall abilities. Classes are therefore usually mixed. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. All volunteers are interviewed prior to placement and must undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework. School staff have received training in the SPELL framework from The National Autistic Society (NAS) trainers..
