Smallwood Primary School and Language Unit
Main information
This is a primary age language unit with 40 places within a mainstream school for children aged 3-11 years, with speech, language and communication difficulties, including autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). There are four small specialist classes for pupils with speech, language and communication difficulties including ASD which the children attend full-time. Currently around a third of our pupils have an ASD diagnosis. Children generally spend the majority of their day in their specialist class, but children who are nearing age related expectations for particular subjects can be integrated into a mainstream class for this. All children have the opportunity to integrate for playtimes, assemblies, school trips and concerts. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
