Portage is a pre-school home based teaching scheme provided by St Helens Children and Young People’s Service. It is based on the principal that parents/carers are the key figures in the care and development of their children. Portage offers practical ideas to: Make learning more fun for the family; Encourage all round development; Address any problems which may arise. Families who participate receive weekly home visits from a trained and supervised Portage Worker who first completes a Portage Assessment with the family covering all areas of development.
