The Menphys Centre
Main information
Type of service: Assessment, Nursery and pre-schools, Outreach, Respite and short breaks
The Menphys Centre is a special nursery provision for children aged 2-5 years. There are 20 places per day for children who attend between 2 and 5 days per week. There are currently around 40% of children with ASD or being assessed for autism attending the Centre. Some children are on dual placement with local mainstream early years providers and staff liaise closely between settings. The Centre uses TEACCH, PECS, Intensive Interaction and music therapy. The Centre has regular input from Leics Autism Outreach Service who provide close links between home and nursery and also EarlyBird training on site. Children with ASDs are in a class for children with speech and language/communication difficulties. It uses the SPELL framework in its approach. The service occasionally accepts volunteers/work experience students to work with pupils, all of whom have CRB (enhanced) clearance. Extra curricular activities on offer are community visits and school trips. The service is accredited by iQ, Leicestershire's integrated quality assurance scheme and ICAN Early Talk (enhanced setting).
