Students with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are grouped according to need. We have a cross phase group of students with ASD and challenging behaviour and some of these have sensory processing difficulties. In Key Stage 3 (KS3) there is a group for students with ASD and sensory processing difficulties. The ASD students and follow a specially tailored timetable which is structured to meet their needs. Both groups have support from a sensory occupational therapist (OT) who offers advice and support. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework and sensory processing strategies.
