Willowbank School is a special educational school for pupils aged 3 to 19 years and caters for a wide range of abilities including those with severe, profound and moderate learning difficulties who require specialist help. The school is an amalgamation of Elmbrook and Urne special schools. The school offers autism-specific classes. Several strategies are used with these pupils including Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped CHildren (TEACCH), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). The classes have a structured routine which have been designed to address the specific needs of these pupils. The aim of the school is to provide a happy and secure environment where the pupils are encouraged and supported. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. Our aim is to combine an academic and life skills curriculum to help our young people to be as independent as possible. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
