About the training

The day will give consideration to how PDA differs from other autism profiles and how to use positive educational approaches and strategies in order to teach children with PDA or a profile more indicative of PDA. There will be a focus on how to re-engage children in learning, to be able to tolerate the everyday demands of school life and to help them reach their full educational potential.

Jilly Davis is a teacher at The National Autistic Society’s Robert Ogden School and has a wealth of experience in working with children with PDA on the autism spectrum within an educational setting. Working for the National Autistic Society since 1978, Jilly has taught at two different residential schools. In 2004 she was given the responsibility of developing and managing an Inclusive Education Resource at The Robert Ogden School to cater for children who have been excluded from a range of educational provision and to develop good autism practice to meet the needs of an increasingly complex profile including PDA.

Training includes:

• training booklet and information provided for each delegate
• opportunity to hear autistic perspectives; this may be through films, quotes from autistic people or the inclusion of a speaker by experience
• signposting to relevant literature and resources.
