Acorn Village
Main information
Type of service: Residential services
Acorn Village was established in 1975 to provide a secure future for people with learning disabilities. Acorn Village is based at Mistley Hall, a small Georgian mansion house set in fourteen acres of land, which is our main administration centre. Our residents' accommodation is mainly situated in the grounds and ranges from single flats to high dependency units. We also support and maintain six properties in the nearby town of Manningtree. Because the village is comprised of different sizes and styles of accommodation, we are able to cater closely for each person's requirements whilst creating a warm homely atmosphere modelled on everyday family life. Support is given to enable our residents to take responsibility for their own daily needs. Our residents can enjoy the comfort and privacy of their own space and communal areas where they meet for work, activities, and social interaction. Acorn fosters close two-way links with the local community and the organisation regularly gives talks to schools and groups to promote understanding among local people.
