The ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) Outreach Service supports both mainstream schools and families to make sure that they are able to meet the needs of children with autistic spectrum disorders.
The team can offer direct support and advice to individual students and the staff involved with teaching them.
It also offers various training packages available to parents and to professionals involved in the support of children with autistic spectrum disorders.
For parents and students, the team offers training packages including: .
- the National Autistic Society's EarlyBird and Barnardo's Cygnet programmes
- online training courses
- bespoke training sessions
- advice and signposting support
- a structured support programme for transitions including secondary school transfer.
For mainstream schools and nursery settings, the team offers various training packages including: .
- whole school or organisation ASD awareness
- INSET training and online training
- specific training for staff supporting pupils with autistic spectrum disorders, including individual education plans and target setting
- advice on establishing an appropriate classroom environment, including providing visual support materials and timetables, work stations and writing social stories and advice on setting up and planning social skills groups.
