Autism Concern is an independent county charity that was formed in 1991 and owes its beginnings to a group of parents of autistic children, who recognised that services for autistic people in the county were fragmentary and inadequate, particularly with regards to practical support following diagnosis. They determined that they would promote the care, treatment and education of children and adults with autism and to secure for them provision commensurate with their need. The charity offers: site based activity days & youth groups for children aged 5-18 years old; support groups; information help and advice and a helpline (0808 808 9090) available 9am-5pm Monday-Friday; awareness raising; courses for professionals and parents; newsletter and an annual conference. Emma Sibbald is the ASD Family Support Advisor offering specialist autism spectrum disorder (ASD) support. Zoe Tobin and Cindy Baylis offer specialist attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) support. Please call their helpline for further information. Autism Concern also offers one to one support in Northampton where you can arrange to come in for a tea or coffee and a chat with any of our Family Support Team in Burlington House on the Wellingborough Road. Autism Concern runs: site based activity days throughout the year in Northampton, Kettering and Daventry for ages 5-18 years old. Youth groups also run in Northampton, Corby and recently Towcester. The Junior Group is for ages 8-12 year olds and the Senior Group for 13-18 year olds and are for children with high functioning autism.
