Autism Dogs CIC

Main information

Type of service: Interventions and therapies

We provide Assistance Dogs for autistic children and adults through our two Assistance Dogs Programmes: our Residential Assistance Dog Programme and our 'At Home' Assistance Dog Programme. In our Residential Programme, we provide a trained Assistance Dog, while in our 'At Home' Programme we help people to train their own dog to become an Assistance Dog. Our programmes include support and training for both the handler and their parents and/or carers.

An Assistance Dog is trained to have at least 3 skills or techniques that mitigate or help the challenges of a person's disability, providing emotional and important practical support in day-to-day tasks. Techniques that we can train our dogs to become include DPT, anxiety and meltdown response, fetching items, and waking their handler.
