Main information
Type of service: Training providers, Service providers, Training providers
Autism Independent UK exists to bring an increased awareness of autism to the notice of all, together with well established and newly developed approaches in diagnosis, assessment, education and treatment. The main goal is to improve the quality of life for persons with autism, giving them a chance to take their rightful place within their local community where they can live, work and play, like everybody else. The Society provides a Diagnosis & Assessment Resource Centre and a library of books and videos where interested persons can obtain information regarding many aspects of autism. Seminars and workshops are organised in joint ventures with Northamptonshire Education, Social Services and Health Authorities for the training of educational and clinical psychologists, therapists, educationalists, carers, health workers and parents in the TEACCH programme. 2, 3 and 5 day TEACCH & Social Learning & Understanding (social stories) training is available. Autism Independent UK produces and publishes all its information via its web site www.autismuk.com for professionals and parents. They also operate a telephone helpline for those requiring information.
