Autism Together Residential and Respite Services
Main information
Type of service: Residential services, Respite and short breaks
Residential services are provided in a number of different homes within the local area and potential clients are assessed by senior staff of Autism Together (formerly Wirral Autistic Society), to ensure that the home meets their specific needs. The residential service concentrates on the development of independence skills and takes full advantage of community-based resources for both skills development and leisure purposes. An awareness of how autism impacts on a person's life is integral to all services offered by the Society. Our autistic-specific, purpose built respite service is provided in “The Ferns” at the Raby Hall site and has its own staff team. Our “Take a Break” Service has 6 beds, but is also able to offer short respite sessions in-house or in the community. Autism Together (formerly Wirral Autistic Society) also has community and vocational and its own narrowboat which is used for holidays and short breaks on the canals of England and Wales. The service supports people with an autism spectrum condition (ASC) using autistic-specific strategies such as Structure, Positive approaches and expectations, Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL), Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Intensive Interaction and Social Stories.
