The WELB Autistic Spectrum Advisory Service (ASAS) is a team of professionals who have specific training, knowledge and experience in working with children and young people with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The team consists of professionals including Educational Psychologists, Teachers and Autism Intervention Officers. All have had experience of working with pupils with ASD in a school environment.
Advice and support provided by ASAS is based on a combined skills approach which includes reference to Structured Teaching, Social Learning Approaches (e.g. Social Stories), Language and Communication (e.g. PECS), Relationship Based Approaches (e.g. Interactive Play) and Behavioural Approaches (ABA).
Provides training, advice and resources for pupils, parents and schools as well as tailored support for pupils. Referral to the service is via WELB Educational Psychology Service. ASAS work with a range of partners including other WELB services and a range of voluntary organisations. ASAS is continually evaluating its work by seeking feedback from all service users.
