Averay Road (Brandon Trust)
Main information
Type of service: Supported living schemes
With Averay Road being a supported living service, we aim to promote and encourage as much independence as possible and for service users to gain new skills and confidence. We stand back as much as we can to let tenants make choices and mistakes. The staff have received Pivotal Response Training (PRT) in blocks and breakaways and do not use restraint. We use distraction techniques when individuals suffer anxiety or distress, positive reinforcement, speech and other communication methods (body language, facial expressions). All individual have their own one bedroom flat to make it their own and, faces of staff and dates they are on shift are provided if they need to know ahead. If an individual seems to be struggling with something we have GP's and more importantly the Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) office right next to the service with on hand psychiatrist to help with support and mental capacity issues. Staff are trained in "Autism, the facts" and Averay Road are now a part of the companys SIG group (special interest group) for autism, in the central area.
