This Consensus service offers a transitional service for individuals aged between 18-25yrs with learning disabilities, autism spectrum condition and associated complex needs. Belstead Villa works closely with Belstead Mews childrens service which supports young people aged between 14-18 years and is OFSTED registered; both focus on providing a progressive service to support individuals through the transition from childhood to adulthood. Belstead Villa supports individuals to prepare for moving to adult services; teaching individuals how to live independently, developing life skills and using transport more independently. As an organisation, Consensus has been successful in supporting those who have experienced placement breakdowns elsewhere or whose needs have been difficult to meet in a family setting. The service offers four self-contained apartments where individuals are supported to manage their own living environment. Each apartment has its own kitchen and an en-suite wet room. Two of the apartments downstairs have adjustable kitchen work surfaces for individuals with physical disabilities. The Villa offers a communal kitchen, where people using the service can cook and eat together. It also offers two lounges and a laundry room where support staff can support individuals to help develop their independent living skills. Support staff also work with individuals in groups to help develop social skills. People using the service are encouraged to actively engage within their community and establish social networks.
