The service provides assessments and advice for children and adults. Assessment tends to be continuous and in various settings (e.g. home/school) with an emphasis on interaction, functional competence, what is observed and implications for development, education and post education. Instruments used include: ADOS, CARS, CARS, GADS (Gilliam Asperger Disorder Scale), checklist for TEACCH, DSM-IV, cognitive skills and level of thinking skills, rather than IQ measures. Advice ranges from diagnostic, behaviour management, education issues, statutory assessments by local authorities, assisting in appeals/attendance at SEN tribunals, providing independent expert reports, visits to educational establishments, provision at post 19 (including advice about care establishments, identifying needs appropriate provision). Member of the British Psychological Society, the Association of Educational Psychologists and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses.
