Bushy Leaze Children and Families Centre
Main information
Type of service: Nursery and pre-schools, Outreach - education, Respite and short breaks
A fully integrated, maintained nursery school with 60 places; 30 of these allocated to children with special educational needs (SEN) in East Hampshire through a multi-disciplinary advisory panel. Many of the children placed have social communication disorders and some go on to be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Centre also supports parents and children in private pre-schools through our Thomas Outreach Programme (TOP) programme. There are 30 nursery places reserved, within our inclusive setting, for children living in East Hampshire who have SEN or disability. These children are placed by the Local Education Authority (LEA) SEN team at the recommendation of a multi-disciplinary assessment team. Children have a range of needs, including ASD. We also offer TOP support to families in other pre-schools and EarlyBird training for parents. The Alton Branch of The National Autistic Society (NAS) has monthly coffee mornings/meetings at Bushy Leaze, sometimes supported by guest speakers. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. Another disability catered for by the school is speech and language. The Children's Centre has a range of inclusive parent and child groups for families with children aged 0-5 years, including Health Visitor clinics, and Bushy Tales group (by referral) for children under 3 years with communication delay or disorder.
