The Learning Centre at Caldicot School is an Local Education Authority (LEA) funded Unit which provides a range of specialist provision of small classes, approximately 10 pupils per class supported by one /two Teaching Assistants (TAs). One to one TA support is available for pupils with additional learning needs within mainstream classes to ensure full inclusion, where appropriate. In addition we have a qualified specific learning difficulties (SLD) tutor funded by the LEA to support pupils with dyslexia. We also provide withdrawal support for pupils with literacy difficulties. Our specialist team of teaching staff and experienced team of TAs provide social communication skills groups for pupils with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), an ASD base, ASD passports, speech and language groups, participation in disability sports Cymru activities, a range of lunchtime activities including board games, art club, football, drama and computer clubs. Pupils within the Learning Centre are provided with opportunities to experience residential outdoor pursuits. A high level of supervision is available for pupils at break and lunchtimes. They are working towards ASD friendly schools status. A high level of transition work is provided at each appropriate key stage.
