Calthorpe School Pupils are admitted from all wards within the city of Birmingham, as well as pupils funded by other Local Authorities (LAs). The school caters for children, aged 2-19 years, with a wide range of educational difficulties, including severe and complex needs. In addition some have specific physical, sensory, behavioural or autism conditions, all of which may require additional adult support or specialised facilities. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The school uses the Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped CHildren (TEACCH) program, and makaton communication methods. The school provides a variety of facilities including careers guidance, cookery, information and communication technology (ICT), library, medical, music, science and technology, sensory, swimming, sports and outdoor play, art and design and drama.
