The majority of the pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are educated in 2 specific classes. Pupils with ASD are educated in mixed ability groups. Staff are trained in Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped CHildren (TEACCH). If necessary pupils with ASD have dedicated times to meet their individual needs. The school educates pupils from 3-19 years of age, with a wide range of abilities and needs. The teacher: pupil ratio is 1:6, but the staff: pupil ratio is 1:2. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. All volunteers are included as part of the school team. Pupils with ASD are educated in mixed ability classes generally. There is one specific class where pupils with communication and interaction needs and often ASD are educated. Many staff are trained in TEACCH, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Intensive Interaction.
