Carrington Junior School
Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Schools
The name of the unit for children with special needs is the Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or social communication disorder (SCD). Children are educated mainly in their own class base, within a mainstream junior school with 238 on roll. Currently there are up to 8 places for children who hold a statement for social communication disorders or ASD. Depending on the individual child's needs there is the opportunity for integration into the mainstream classes for any of the curriculum subjects. All children from the department integrate with some degree of support into their peer group classes for music and/or games giving the opportunity for social integration. The department joins the main school for assemblies, playtimes and whole school productions. The children with ASD are very much part of the school.
