Cedar Vale
Main information
Type of service: Hospital services
Cedar Vale is a 16-bed independent hospital providing specialist support and services for men on the autistic spectrum with associated complex needs. Cedar Vale is situated on the edge of a village in its own extensive grounds in East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. The service provides a safe and structured environment for the delivery of dedicated support for people with autism spectrum disorders. Treatment is well-evidenced, robust, and flexible, and the service can provide outcome-orientated packages for adults with autism and behaviours which challenge, some of whom have learning disabilities, and those who may or may not be detained under the Mental Health Act. Particular attention is given to enable people to maintain high levels of privacy and independence in keeping with their cognitive abilities and adaptive skills. The service provides appropriate mental health assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation in a structure specific environment. Cedar Vale ensures that each patient benefits from a multi-disciplinary team approach that includes substantial input and ongoing support from qualified learning disability nurses, consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, speech and language therapists and occupational therapy. This includes the development and delivery of support and treatment plans. Cedar Vale ensures that patients and their relatives/carers, social workers, professional advocacy workers, and significant others are all, as far as is appropriate and practicable, encouraged to participate in the development of care and treatment plans. Cedar Vale has patients and family forums as we recognise the importance of family involvement. Cedar Vale provides a range of therapeutic, educational and recreational activities that address individual needs and choices. These can include voluntary work, college, sensory activities, cooking, gardening, music, and community access. We are available for planned and rapid referral advice, seven days a week. We also welcome visits from service users, carers, parents, and professionals.
