Type of service: Diagnostic services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)
Based at Newtown Hospital, the umbrella (multi-disciplinary) Team are able to cater for children and young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and accompanying mental health/behavioural problems and also assess and manage neuro-developmental disorders. Diagnosis is confirmed by Communication and Social Behaviour Assessment Team (CASBAT). Referrals to the Team can be made via Health and Social Services professionals.
Assessment procedure: Assessments as necessary including classroom observation, speech and language and cognitive assessments, sometimes occupational therapy.
Follow up service: Medication, individual and family work. Positive Parenting Programme.
Multi-disciplinary assessment: Yes.Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Speech and Language Therapy, Education (Specialist Autism Teachers), Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy, play-based assessment, educational psychology, therapeutic social worker assessment.
