Children's Short Break Unit, Gilburn Road
Main information
Type of service: Respite and short breaks
Service URL: http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk
Provides planned residential short breaks for young people. The unit is purpose built and provides a homely, spacious atmosphere. Young people with a variety of additional support needs access the unit and activities are geared towards their needs and choices. The unit consists of an open plan living and dining area, four bedrooms, a multi-sensory room, and a spacious garden area. There is also a domestic size kitchen so that young people can help prepare meals and snacks. In order to provide an effective service, all young people will have a Care Plan and Respite agreement drawn up in conjunction with the young people themselves where possible, and their parents or carers. The unit can care for up to 4 young people at one time. The service is registered with the Scottish Care Commission. Referrals to the service are through the Shared Care Group. This group consists of representatives from Tayside University Hospital Trust, Dundee City Council Social Work Department, and Barnardos Family Support Team. All referrals must come from one of the above named organisations as this allows for an assessment of need.
