Choices Advocacy

Main information

Type of service: Advocacy (general)

Advocacy: Independent Advocacy helps people to speak up and have their views and wishes heard. It helps people access their rights as members of the community. The services are free and anyone can ask for an advocate. We provide independent advocacy for adults with a learning disability. We provide independent advocacy for vulnerable adults. We provide independent advocacy for older people.

Person Centred Planning - PCP: Choices Advocacy has a new Volunteer Person Centred Planning project. Choices volunteer Person Centred Planners work with children and families or adults with a learning disability to develop a Person Centred Plan.

Self Advocacy: Self Advocacy is about speaking up for yourself and what is important to you. Self Advocacy groups discuss issues that are being talked about at the Partnership Board. We talk about things like, transport, health, support and getting a job. Group members tell the Partnership Board what people have said. This ensures people with learning disabilities are included in the development of their local services. Group members also take part in training, conferences, consultations and work that tells people about the views of people who have a learning disability. The Busy People group meets every week and are members of the Southampton Learning Disability Partnership Board. We also have HUB groups running: one for anyone with a learning disability and one specifically for parents.
