Community Child Health Department, Musgrove Park Hospital
Main information
Type of service: Diagnostic services
Community Child Health is a department where community paediatricians (doctors trained to deliver health services to children with an emphasis on delivering that care in the community) are based. These paediatricians have close links with colleagues in general practice and hospital and many of the doctors work in both hospital and community settings. The service is multi-professional and multi-disciplinary and so the paediatricians work closely with other colleagues such as clinical psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, teachers and educational psychologists.
The Community Child Health Department paediatricians work with children who have additional support needs, neurodisability (which includes children with physical difficulties, learning difficulties, communication disorders, sensory impairments affecting vision and hearing) as well as children with emotional and behavioural disturbance and disadvantaged children, including child protection work. Many of the doctors are also involved in research into these conditions.
