Community Learning Disability Teams

Community Teams for People with Learning Disabilities (CTPLD) provide specialist healthcare services for people with learning disabilities who are 18 years and over and living within Bedfordshire, Essex and Luton.
The service is provided for people who have:
• Mental illness and other mental disorders, such as autism
• Challenging or disturbed behaviour
• Epilepsy, which cannot be managed by general neurology services
• Sensory deficits which cannot be managed by general services
• Degenerating neurological disorders which occurred during their developmental period and led to learning disabilities.
The Community Teams for People with Learning Disabilities are multi-disciplinary and services include:
• Psychology
• Speech and language therapy
• Occupational therapy (not available in Thurrock)
• Physiotherapy (not available in Thurrock)
• Behaviour therapy
• Dietetics
• Sensory service
• Medical outpatients
• Art psychotherapies (Bedfordshire & Luton only)
The services provided by Community Teams for People with Learning Disabilities can be accessed by both inpatients and outpatients depending on individual need. SEPT (South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust) does not currently provide services for people with autism and Asperger syndrome for these disorders alone, but will provide assessment and treatment of co-existing mental health problems for these people and challenging behaviour for those with autism.
