Community Support Service, Cambridgeshire
Main information
Type of service: Day services, Domiciliary services, Respite and short breaks, Befriending/mentoring
It offers short breaks within a family environment for children from birth to 19 years with learning, physical and/or sensory disabilities. Community Support Workers will work in the home to care for the child only or with their siblings to allow other members of the family free time and also take the child out into their local community. Monthly clubs are also available for children and young people aged 10 years and above. Younger children may be taken on fun days out eg zoo trips. Older children are encouraged to make choices about which activities they do in order to increase their independence. This may involve going on shopping outings, bowling or to the cinema. Children and young people need to have an official diagnosis of a disability and to be assessed and referred to the service by their Social Worker.
