Contact a Family North East England

Main information

Type of service: Family support and information services

We offer information, advice and support to parents and carers of children with any special need or disability as well as professionals working with families. We organise workshops and conferences for parents and professionals based on local interest. Workshops are an opportunity for parents to come together and share their experiences. Previous topics have included the needs of siblings, transition and wills and trusts. Contact a Family North East produces a quarterly newsletter and regular email bulletin that offer information on sources of local support, events, leisure opportunities and topics of interest to families such as benefits, holidays and relevant national organisations. The newsletter and email bulletin are available to both parents and professionals free of charge. We can provide training to professionals and groups on issues that affect families of children with special needs. We offer support to the development of new parent groups and help to strengthen existing groups. Working alongside professionals, Contact a Family North East ensures that the needs of parents, carers and children with special needs are represented and are committed to empowering parent/carers and helping them to become involved in shaping the local services that their disabled children need.
