The Specialist Advisory Teaching Service (Children's Services) works in partnership with Cumbrian schools offering advice and support for teachers, support staff, pupils and their parents. The service is made up of qualified Specialist Advisory Teachers grouped into multi-professional area teams. The teachers work collaboratively with colleagues in Education, Children's Services and Health supporting students in the following areas: autism spectrum disorders/conditions, EAL, Blind and VI, Complex Learning Difficulties, Deaf and HI, Developmental Delay, Physical/Medical difficulties, SLD, Specific Learning Difficulties(Literacy) Speech and Language Difficulties, Attachment disorders, EMA (Ethnic Minority Achievement). Referrals can be made directly by schools at Early Years/School Action Plus, from colleagues within Children's Services and from the Health Service, school medical officers and via the Special Educational Needs Service (SENS).
